Step By Step (2014)
Cork
"Step By Step" is a site-specific installation pop-up in the Hong Kong Ping Shek Estate that transforms playground slides into a bridge and uses play as a method to gather two groups of children.
Hong Kong public housing is the affordable residence provided by the government for new immigrants and lower-income residents. Based on the observations in the Ping Shek Estate, the playground is constantly occupied by two groups of children: Pakistan and Hong Konger. Little interactions between the groups.
To assume the language differences and lack of understanding become the boundary; will "playing" becomes a method to break down the barrier?
